Welcome to Dead Weight!

Help SML-E and SUITS.U. get their captain back to safety. WARNING: The laser gate to the left of the asteroid field is literally impossible (prove me wrong?), so please don't get stuck trying too hard for too long to get past it <3

Controls are explained in game, but:

A and D rotate the captain

Spacebar/Backspace activate the jetpack

E to interact with things

R to die and reset

left click to shoot the gun, if you manage to get it!

Really once you've gotten the gun you've seen all there is in the game, minus the easter egg if you want to look for it.  Moving around is a lot more fun with the gun, though. Needed another day to really flesh out the content, hopefully you have fun with what's here, like a little teaser! I intend to finish this game after the jam period :)

Here's a video with some bugs fixed if you want to see what it could have been:

why godot ?

Good question πŸ˜… I don’t trust Unity anymore - the last debacle was just the straw that broke the camel’s back - and liked the idea of Godot as something lightweight. Had a lot of issues with it in some ways, and a lot of struggles too. Basic stuff is pretty nice and easy though.

but  not all devices support the game made by Godot, you know ?

mine for example that not supporting WebGL2

Nice game, I do have some complaints about it though...

There is way too much dialogue before you can start playing, I would suggest you to either make the dialogue as short as possible, cutting it at the bare minimum to still have an understandable story, and also adding some visuals rather than just strings to the dialogue itself to make it a little bit more entertaining, for example adding sorts of cutscenes or static scenes showing what is also written in the dialogue, or maybe character's faces or icons while the dialogue is being displayed.
The controls are also a bit clunky, sometimes the character just doesn't spin on itself, no matter how long you press buttons or which button you press, you are just left with a floating character and the only thing you can do is shoot out air, but most of the times you are stuck on walls and this doesn't help.

After this honest and I hope not to harsh feedback (I am trying to help after all), I can say the visuals look very nice, the sounds and music are very nice too (apart from the alarm sound which, after having to read through all the dialogue with that sound looping in your ears, might start to be a little bit annoying).

Keep polishing the game up, you did a good job on it :D

Thanks so much! Definitely agreed about the dialogue - I tried to lampshade it a little with the line "Thanks for dumping all that info on me" but it is excessive for sure. Very much a jam decision - I had also intended to have portraits with the dialogue but ran out of time.

Definitely plan to polish it up and fix the physics bugs (to the best of my ability)

Appreciate the good and honest feedback, thanks for playing!

Nice Game. The controls might take a while to get used to and the art is 10/10
